BBC Earth and not-for-profit media group Alucia Productions have teamed up on Our Blue Planet, a digital initiative designed to get 1 billion people talking about the world’s oceans.

The project is being launched ahead of the BBC’s upcoming Blue Planet II from BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit. Original content created for #OurBluePlanet will include Facebook Live and 360-degree videos from fascinating locations around the world, including Antarctica’s icy seas and coral reefs in Malaysia. The videos will feature people who work, play and live at sea, spanning topics such as new science, exploration and discovery. The goal of the project is to bring people together online to have a discussion about our oceans.

BBC Worldwide’s global brands director, Julia Kenyon, said, “There has never been a more exciting time to bring people together for a global conversation about our oceans. Our Blue Planet will explore our relationship with the ocean, bringing people together to share what it means to them and to celebrate the extraordinary people who work with, on and under our seas every day.”

Alucia Productions’ creative director, Mark Dalio, added, “With so many exciting new discoveries happening every day in our oceans, now more than ever before is the time to shine a light on the people who are exploring this frontier and to bring the community together to celebrate our global connection with the oceans. With the launch of Our Blue Planet, we’re excited to share the stories of these unique individuals who are making a difference to inspire and educate on the beauty, vastness and discoveries of what lies below and above the waves.”
