Attenborough-Led Series Among BBC’s New Factual Commissions

The BBC’s latest raft of factual commissions includes the natural history series One Planet, Seven Worlds (w/t), fronted by veteran presenter Sir David Attenborough.

A number of other BBC commissions are focused on environmental matters and protecting the planet, including the tentatively titled Green Planet, Meat: A Threat to Planet Earth with Liz Bonnin and Population with Chris Packham.

In May, the BBC will recognize Mental Health Awareness Week with documentaries that tackle mental health from Nadiya Hussain, David Harewood and Alastair Campbell. A film that looks at the rate of suicide in young people in the armed forces will air on BBC Three.

The BBC also plans to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day with coverage of commemorations in both Portsmouth and Normandy. Over the next five years, the network will remember more WWII milestones with programs such as Robert Rinder’s My Family, The Holocaust and Me on BBC One, a film marking the liberation of Belsen and series The Rise of the Nazis for BBC Two.

Other recent BBC factual commissions include documentaries that delve into challenging subjects from Ed Balls, Arthur Cary, Mobeen Azhar, George McGavin and Louis Theroux.
