Animal Planet to Air Explorer-Shot North Pole Special

SILVER SPRING: Animal Planet has set a December premiere date for its two-hour special Melting: Last Race to the Pole, which features self-shot footage from explorers at the North Pole.

Due out December 9, the title will follow polar explorer Eric Larsen and veteran extreme mountaineer Ryan Waters as they undertake an unaided expedition through the polar icecap. High Noon Entertainment produced the title for Animal Planet.

“The Arctic Ocean’s sea ice is disappearing, and North Pole expeditions may not be possible in the near future,” Larsen said. “Melting: Last Race to the Pole is our attempt to tell the story of one of the last great frozen wildernesses left on the planet before it is forever gone.”
