A+E Factual Studios, a division of A+E Networks, has expanded its executive team with the appointment of Netflix alum Jhamal Robinson to the newly created position of executive VP, head of production.

Robinson will oversee all productions for the division through its brands Six West Media and Category 6 Media. He will work on creating streamlined workflows and drive the division’s DEI goals. Prior to this, Robinson was VP of physical production at Netflix.

At Netflix, he managed the physical production and production management teams for Netflix original content across the North America features, series, documentary, non-scripted and comedy groups. He managed a range of productions from independent to mid-level and big-budget projects. He drove DEI initiatives and implemented programs and policies to promote equal opportunity for all production studio employees. He also led union negotiations, spearheading internal strategy discussions with the AMPTP.

Before that, Robinson served as senior VP of production management and operations at Discovery, serving as the primary liaison for production in the launch of discovery+ and overseeing the physical production for 18 major television networks. Prior to that, he served as head of physical production at Yahoo! and head of production at NBCUniversal.

In his new role at A+E Factual Studios, Robinson will be based in Los Angeles and report to Sharon Scott, president.

“In a few short years, A+E Factual Studios has experienced rapid growth with hundreds of hours of content currently in production,” Scott said. “With his expertise in managing production teams, suppliers and multi-million-dollar budgets, Jhamal is the perfect person to join our leadership team as we scale our business for the future.”
