PBS International Presents The Vietnam War, Scores Sales

Today at MIPDoc, PBS International, PBS and ARTE presented a special screening event with filmmaker Lynn Novick showcasing exclusive clips from The Vietnam War, which sales were also secured for.

PBS International licensed the title to SBS (Australia), BBC (U.K.), Société Radio-Canada (French Canada), PBS America, S4C (Wales) and American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS). The Vietnam War will air in the U.S. on PBS and on ARTE in France and Germany starting in September.

“The Vietnam War is an unmatched achievement that will spark thought, questions and debate around one of the most transformative periods in modern history,” said Tom Koch, the VP of PBS International. “Ken Burns and Lynn Novick have looked at the Vietnam War from a global perspective, capturing the voices on all sides of the conflict to tell the complete story in a way that has never been done before.”

“To shed new light on the war, Ken and I tried to look at it from many perspectives,” Novick said. “In addition to dozens of Americans who shared their stories, we interviewed many Vietnamese on both the winning and losing sides, and were surprised to learn that the war remains as painful and unresolved for them as it is for us. Within this almost incomprehensibly destructive event, we discovered profound, universal human truths, as well as uncanny resonances with recent events. We are extremely gratified by the tremendous interest in the series around the world.”
