LONDON/LEICESTER: Zig Zag Productions has entered into an agreement with Leicester City and England national team footballer Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy to produce a documentary series.

The three-part documentary series, tentatively titled Jamie Vardy’s Having an Academy, follows the football player as he helps non-league talent get to the next level by providing them with an educational experience in what it takes to play professional football. The series is the first project to result from a development deal with Fleet Street Sport & Media Group, a media services business led by former international footballer and Sunderland FC Chairman Niall Quinn MBE.

Vardy’s Having an Academy will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how coaching, sport science, fitness methodology, talent identification and mental training are carried out at the professional level. The program will also follow the stories of those who enter the V9 Academy, as well as offer insight into Vardy’s time in non-league football. The V9 Academy will accept players for the first time in May 2017 at Manchester City FC’s training complex, hosting 42 applicants for a five-day residential program.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Zig Zag Productions team on the documentary about the V9 Academy,” said Vardy, co-founder of V9 Academy. “I hope the series encourages would-be footballers to give it another go and keep on fighting like I did.”

“Jamie Vardy is the biggest success in world football at the moment, having risen from a non-league player to becoming a Premier League champion with Leicester City,” said Danny Fenton, the CEO of Zig Zag Productions. “He’s now launching his own Academy to help players rise up from the non league to become elite professionals and Zig Zag will be there to film the journey.”
