ID Delves Into the Life of Boy Bands in New Series

Investigation Discovery is delving into the boy band boom of the late 1990s and early 2000s in the four-part series Boy Band Confidential, premiering on April 13.

Executive produced by former NSYNC member Joey Fatone, the series will reveal how the industry transformed young performers into marketable commodities while exposing untold stories of abuse, addiction and financial manipulation. NSYNC’s Lance Bass, Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean, 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey, Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman, O-Town’s Ashley Parker Angel and LFO’s Brad Fischetti are among those who provide unfiltered firsthand accounts of their experiences.

The series also features candid voices from managers, insiders and those closest to the teen heartthrobs who witnessed the pressure, the power struggles and the darker realities behind the scenes, all while navigating the system that employed them.

Boy Band Confidential is produced by AMPLE Entertainment and Compelling Pictures. Executive producers include Fatone, Joe Mulvihill, AMPLE Entertainment’s Ari Mark and Sumit David and Compelling Pictures’ Steven Garcia, Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri.

“Being in a boy band was one of the greatest experiences of my life, but it also came with challenges we didn’t always understand at the time,” Fatone said. “This project gave all of us a chance to reflect, to be honest and to share what really happened behind the spotlight.”

The four-part series premieres ahead of season two of Hollywood Demons, which continues to confront uncomfortable truths that reveal that what the world saw was far from the reality lived. Each two-hour episode revisits cultural touchstones such as The Jerry Springer Show, Saved by the Bell and 16 and Pregnant. The new season is set to debut on April 20.
