Fremantle Takes on Billy Idol Should Be Dead

Fremantle has acquired the international distribution rights, excluding the U.S., for Live Nation Studios’ documentary Billy Idol Should Be Dead.

Directed by Grammy winner Jonas Åkerlund, the film combines never-before-seen archival footage with revealing interviews, featuring Billy Idol himself, his bandmates, family and fellow music artists such as Miley Cyrus and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.

The feature-length documentary chronicles Idol’s punk beginnings to superstardom in the MTV era. It also reveals the near-death experiences that silenced him forever and unveils how a DNA test led to him discovering a long-lost son.

“This feature-length documentary delves into the raw, riveting life of one of rock’s most iconic rebels,” said Kyle Harris, VP of international acquisitions at Fremantle. “We’re excited to be partnering with Live Nation to bring the untold story of Billy Idol to an international audience.”

Ryan Kroftt, head of film and television at Live Nation Studios, added, “Billy Idol’s epic story is one of global proportions, and now with our extraordinary partners at Fremantle, the world will get to see it.”
