BBC iPlayer, BBC Two Commission Believe in Magic Docuseries

BBC Factual has commissioned Believe in Magic, a three-part documentary series for BBC iPlayer and BBC Two based on the BBC Sounds podcast about the scandal-plagued charity organization founded by Megan Bhari and her mother, Jean.

“This compelling series tells the complex story behind the Believe in Magic charity,” said Clare Sillery, head of commissioning of documentaries. “Explored through the eyes of those caught up in events, it attempts to unravel the mother-daughter relationship at its heart. In doing so, it raises profound questions about parenthood and the lengths we might go to make our children’s dreams come true.”

Megan and her mother launched the charity in 2012 to grant wishes to seriously ill children after claiming Megan herself had a brain tumor. However, a small group of parents in the child cancer community began to have doubts about how sick Megan actually was.

“This very complex, important story gripped listeners when the podcast was released two years ago,” said Georgia Moseley, head of the BBC Studios documentary unit. “With unprecedented access to those closest to events, this series digs much deeper as further details come to light.”

The executive producer is Jonathan Smith, and the series is directed by Luned Tonderai, with director-producer Ruth Mayer.
