BriteSpark Films is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Titanic’s discovery at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean with the two-part series Finding the Titanic: Secrets from the Depths.

The docuseries interweaves the story of the ship’s discovery and the resulting global reaction with a retelling of how it came to rest on the ocean floor. It features archive footage and first-person testimony from the people involved in the expedition and those that came before it.

The rusting wreck of the RMS Titanic was discovered two and a half miles below the surface of the Atlantic by an expedition that was a collaboration between U.S. and French oceanographic experts, led by Dr. Robert D. Ballard and Jean-Louis Michel.

Finding the Titanic was directed by Dimitri Collingridge. It was executive produced for BriteSpark Films by Tom Porter. The story was developed and researched by assistant producer Geeta Wedderburn. Sphere Abacus is distributing the series, which has already been acquired by Channel 4 in the U.K. and SBS in Australia.

“The sinking of the Titanic is one of the best-known stories of the 20th century,” said Porter. “However, how its wreck was discovered and the incredible efforts and endeavor that went into locating it is less well known. This series will put that story front and center.”
