Crime+Investigation has ordered a ten-episode second season of the U.K. crime series Murdertown after the show’s first run became the channel’s highest-rated commission ever.

Season one of Murdertown bowed in 2018, attracting 1 million viewers across its linear run, and the series’ podcast reached number one on iTunes. The show is produced by Workerbee, a part of Endemol Shine UK.

Murdertown is an in-depth investigation into the impact of a murder or series of murders on a community in Britain. In each episode, Katherine Kelly takes the audience to towns where murders took place and tells the story through the testimony of investigating police officers, local journalists, friends, relatives and business colleagues.

Towns featured in season two include Portsmouth, Wrexham, Ipswich, Darlington, Greenock, Grimsby, Middlesbrough, Bristol, Nuneaton and Croydon.

Dan Korn, VP of programming at A+E Networks UK, said: “We’re delighted to welcome back our highest-ever rated original series on Crime+Investigation. It tells these important stories from new perspectives and breathes life into what, for many, was a passing newspaper headline, but which, for each local community involved, left scars and fissures which endure to this day.

Kelly said: “I’m pleased to be returning to Crime+Investigation for season two of the show; these new towns and cases we cover are fascinating, with stories that really do demonstrate the devastating impact and senseless nature of these awful crimes.”

Darrell Brown, series producer for Workerbee, added: “We’re delighted to be making a second season of Murdertown—which promises to go deeper into these communities. Many of these cases are being reported in documentary for the first time—shining a new light on some of the darkest corners of the U.K.”
