Flicker Productions Hires New Head of Specialist Factual

Flicker Productions has tapped Charlotte Nicholls to be its new head of specialist factual and upped Chloe Symonds to the post of head of development, with both appointments effective immediately.

In her new role, Nicholls will lead Flicker’s push into the specialist factual programming space in both the U.K. and the U.S. Nicholls joins Flicker from DSP, where she was head of development and commissioned such programs as Made In Great Britain for BBC Two, Interior Design Masters for Netflix, The Trial Of Lady Jane Grey for BBC Four, The Yorkshire Steam Railway for Channel 5 and a forthcoming new factual series for the BBC. Prior to DSP, she spent four years as head of development at KEO Films.

Both Nicholls and the recently promoted Symonds, who last served as a development producer at Flicker, will report into joint Managing Directors Nick Underhill and Colleen Flynn.

Flynn said: “Charlotte has a first-class track record at developing ideas and winning commissions for some of the best indies in the U.K. for a range of U.K. and U.S. channels. Charlotte is a fantastic team player and we are looking forward to her aiding our continued growth.”

Nicholls added: “In a short space of time, Flicker has established itself as an incredibly strong player in factual programming. I’m so excited to be joining the team to lead their expansion into specialist factual both in the U.K. and the U.S.”

Symonds said: “I’ve enjoyed producing new ideas at Flicker and am thrilled and excited now to be leading the slate development of new ideas at the company as it expands its genre and commissioning base in the U.K. and overseas”.

Underhill commented: “Chloe’s record in sourcing and developing fantastic projects for Flicker has been second to none. Her knowledge of the industry, her inquisitive take on society and her ability to source, access and develop innovative ideas means we are very happy to appoint her head of development—we are lucky to have her on board!”
