Discovery is set to launch its home and lifestyle network HGTV as a free-to-air channel in Germany.

Part of Discovery’s strategy to grow the global reach of the former Scripps content and brands, HGTV’s expansion to Germany will mark the brand’s first European launch since the acquisition. HGTV will make its debut in the country in June, with additional markets to follow.

HGTV’s content catalog features programming across six categories: buying and selling, home renovation, flipping, home improvement and dream homes. The HGTV audience in Germany will have access to the brand’s extensive library and will be able to view more than 500 hours of premier program content per year. Among the programs to be available to German viewers are Flip or Flop, House Hunters, My Lottery Dream Home and Good Bones.

Prior to the Scripps deal, HGTV was launched in Poland.

Kasia Kieli, president and managing director of Discovery in EMEA, said: “We are incredibly excited to be announcing the launch of HGTV in Germany and start using our scale and expertise across EMEA to expand HGTV and other key real-life entertainment brands into new territories and reach millions of new people throughout EMEA. ”

Kieli added: “Discovery’s strategy is to connect with passionate audiences across the Globe and the HGTV brand creates a very powerful opportunity to provide a dedicated home brand that fuels people’s passions, builds a community spirit and works across multiple platforms for audiences and commercial partners.”
