BBC Studios has secured a slew of deals for Brook Lapping’s 9/11: Life Under Attack, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the devastating terrorist attack.

Deals are in place in France, with its co-pro partner France Télévisions, as well as in Germany (ZDF), Australia (ABC), Italy (Discovery), Denmark (DR), Spain (TVE and Telefonica), Belgium (VRT), New Zealand (TVNZ), Russia (BBC News Russian), Central and Eastern Europe (AMC) and Brazil (Globo and Globoplay).

The 90-minute feature doc was commissioned by ITV, France Télévisions (French title 9/11: From the Ground Up), The HISTORY Channel (U.S. title 9/11: I Was There) and VPRO.

It features previously unheard audio and images to present the personal stories told by the people in New York that day who lived through the events and recorded them.

Greg Sanderson, director of London television at Zinc Media Group, said: “This program will serve as an important record of one of the most historic days in modern history, captured by those who were in the thick of the chaos as it unfolded. We are therefore delighted it has received such strong interest internationally. Our thorough approach to exploring the minutiae of historical events means our programs always find audiences throughout the world, particularly those keen for definitive and authoritative reflections on the moments in history which collectively shape our lives.”

Paul Dempsey, president of global distribution at BBC Studios, added: “There is a global appetite for in-depth real-world accounts, so it comes as no surprise that this compelling and unique portrayal of 9/11—a historical event that continues to shape the modern world 20 years on—has received significant international interest.”
