TVOntario Acquires More Hi-5, Takes The Shak

SYDNEY, March 5: TVOntario has acquired the second season of
the Emmy-nominated Hi-5 and 70×1-hour
episodes of the new kids’ show The Shak from Southern Star International.

Produced in Australia by Kids Like
Us and Nine Films and Television for Discovery Kids, Hi-5 USA features an
American cast and is based on music, movement and laughter.

Produced by the Nine Network
Australia, The Shak takes young viewers
on daily adventures of discovery and features Australia’s unique landscape,
fauna and flora. Each story is generated by children who send questions via
mail, email, SMS or video that cover everything from “why the sky is blue?” to
“what kind of animal is a platypus?” The questions are then answered by
real-life presenters, Curio, Eco, Nitro and Picasso, from their secret hideout.

Frances James, from the acquisitions, children’s and youth
programming division at TVOntario, commented: “As TVO Kids goes into its new
spring schedule, we are excited to have the second season of Hi-5 to build on the success of season one, as well as
the North American premiere of The Shak—a really innovative series for older kids. This great
programming from Southern Star will certainly help us provide educational and
motivational entertainment for all our viewers—from 2-12.”
