YouTube Kids has broken off from the main video-sharing platform to become its own website with new age group settings.

The age group settings parents can choose from on the new site include Preschool (ages 4 and under), which features videos promoting creativity, playfulness, learning and exploration; Younger (ages 5 to 7), for a wider variety of content such as songs, cartoons and crafts; and Older (ages 8 to 12), which enables kids to explore additional music videos, gaming, family vlogs, science and more. In addition to the settings, parents will still be able to see watch history and flag content.

The YouTube Kids standalone website (www.youtubekids.com) arrives ahead of the official FTC settlement that could see YouTube being forced to ban children under age 13 from the platform. Up until now, YouTube Kids, which has more than 14 million monthly active viewers across 43 countries, has only been available as an app on mobile devices.
