YMA Selects Awards of Excellence Nominees

The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) has revealed the nominees for its Awards of Excellence, the winners of which will be announced during a gala on May 28 at CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto.

For best program, live action non-scripted for ages 3 to 5, the nominees are The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy (“I Love My Name!”) and Indigenous Art Adventures (“Turtle”).

In the same category for live action non-scripted for ages 6 to 9, the nominees are Dream It To Be It (“I Dream of Ballet”), Green Squad (“Anja”), Trading Skills (“Ironworker”) and Old Enough (“If You Say So”).

For live action non-scripted for ages 9-plus, the award is between Ainara’s Bookshelf (“The Barren Grounds”), Media Stamped (“What’s In a Frame”) and All Round Champion (“Pickleball”).

In live action scripted for ages 3 to 5, it’s Mittens & Pants (“Bunny Family Wedding”), Wordsville (“The Case of the Uncompromising Community”) and Odd Squad (“Odd Ones In”).

Also in the live action scripted category, for ages 6 to 9, Dino Dex (“Chickenosaurus Rex part 1”) is up against Jane (“Ursus Maritimus”) and I Woke Up a Vampire (“Siblings”).

In the same category but for ages 9-plus, the nominees are Louise Lives Large (“Help Jess”), Malory Towers (“The Wedding”), Beyond Black Beauty (“Feels Like Home”) and Davey & Jonesie’s Locker (“The Day the Music Schneid”).

Up for the Award of Excellence for best gaming or interactive experience are Ainara’s Book Club, Echo Hunter and Dicey Escape.

The casts of Wordsville, Davey & Jonesie’s Locker and All Round Champion season six are up for the youth ensemble win.

In short form for ages 3 to 5, Jeremy and Jazzy (“Hopscotch”), Silly Paws (“Starstruck”), Happy Place (“The Art Show”/”Giving Feels Good”/”Bathtime for Harry”) and Let’s Be Friends (“Eitan and Kristen”) are competing. Also in short form, but for ages 6 to 9-plus, the contenders are Armadillo Avalanche (“Clem”), Benjamin Ojo and Street Cents (“Getting Your First Betta Fish”).

In the animation arena, the nominees for ages 3 to 5 are Caillou (“Understanding Tina”); Luna, Chip & Inkie: Adventure Rangers Go (“Lights! Camera! Save Eagle Creek!”); Let’s Go, Bananas! (“Sleepover Party Pooper”/”Great Growl-Mom”) and Dino Ranch (“A Big Friend for Little Sadie”). For ages 6 to 9-plus in animation, the nominees are Butterfly Tale (episode one), SuperKlaus (episode one), Interstellar Ella (“A Star is Born”) and Total Drama Island (“Pirates of the Cabbage’an”).

Contenders for the Award of Excellence for best narrative film or one-off special are Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin; Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie; Strawberry Shortcake and the Beast of Berry Bog; and Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe.

The hosts or on-air personalities up for an award are Ainara Alleyne for Ainara’s Bookshelf; Fay and Fluffy for The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy; and Éric Arsenault, Shakira Botticelli, Sigfried Hemming, Kyle Meagher and Lisa Pryce for Green Squad.
