YMA Opens 2024 Steven DeNure Scholarship Applications

The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) has made a call for entries for the 2024 YMA Steven DeNure Scholarship.

The YMA launched the program to encourage and support members to offer students or emerging producers an immersive paid work experience with a production company or broadcaster working in children’s content. One or two mentor companies will be selected annually for this financial support for the next three to four years while funds remain available.

The scholarship will provide C$4,500 ($3,256) for a 12-week internship, to be matched by the mentor company.

Mentor companies must submit an application form by May 10.

For eligibility, mentor companies must be members of the YMA, based in Canada, contribute a minimum of C$4,500 ($3,256) to match the fund and find an intern. A mentor company applicant cannot be an employer or family member of the intern who they are proposing in their application.

Interns must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations, be a student or recent graduate of an accredited Canadian post-secondary educational institution and cannot be an employee or family member of the mentor company.

Interns must submit a two-page report about their experience upon conclusion of the internship.

The funding has been made possible due to contributions from YMA members Marlowe Stone and Steven DeNure, as well as sponsors 9 Story Media Group, CMPA, marblemedia, Sinking Ship Entertainment, WildBrain, Breakthrough Entertainment and Portfolio.
