Toronto-based BGM has been commissioned to produce the tentatively titled preschool series Abby’s Farm for TVOkids.

Aimed at 3- to 5-year-olds, the series explores daily life on a working farm from the perspective of 6-year-old Abby, who has a love of farming, nature and animal care. Each episode of Abby’s Farm focuses on a different farming-related activity—from milking cows to learning how corn is planted—and also revolves around a different number.

Designed to complement Abby’s Farm, BGM has also produced a short-form learning-focused series called Count With Abby! The two-minute videos will expand on the numeracy theme and feature an original intro, followed by three counting moments gleaned from the main series.

In other BGM news, Backyard Beats is set to premiere on TVO on May 20. The new series, which explores music from all angles, will also be available for streaming on TVOkids.com.

Marney Malabar, the director of Kids TV at TVO, said: “We’re so excited to introduce Abby’s Farm to our viewers. By familiarizing them with the importance of farming, the environment and community at this young age, the show will help kids develop the awareness they need to become more conscientious adults.”

Marlo Miazga, the new CEO of BGM Inc, said: “Abby’s Farm throws the spotlight on an industry and a lifestyle that’s often overlooked in our increasingly urban world. It’s important for kids to know how the food they eat arrives on their plate, particularly at a time when sustainable food production is so high on the global agenda. Once again, TVOkids has commissioned a great show that will entertain, educate and engage young audiences.”
