Econet Media’s Kwesé TV has added to its lineup Turner’s new superhero-themed channel Toonami, which is slated to launch on the African broadcaster later this week.

Toonami is meant for young viewers between the ages of 6 and 12. The channel will become available exclusively on Kwesé TV in English-speaking countries outside of South Africa tomorrow. It will air animated series featuring DC Comics’ Batman, Superman, The Green Lantern and The Justice League, as well as Ben 10 and Thundercats. There will also be a branded Toonami movies block with films showcasing popular superheroes’ heroic acts and deeds.

Pierre Branco, the VP and general manager of Turner Southern Europe and Africa, remarked: “We are pleased with the addition of Toonami to the Kwesé bouquet as it further diversifies our robust entertainment experience and program offering outside of South Africa. With its clear positioning and strong franchising connections, we are convinced that Toonami will build a strong fan base around the most popular superheroes. Turner will meet the growing demand for premium-quality superhero content on the continent.”

Joseph Hundah, Econet Media’s president and group CEO, added: “At Kwesé we pride ourselves in offering exclusive and never-seen-before content for our viewers. The addition of this exciting new channel Toonami to our network brings further diversity, choice and more importantly exclusivity to our premium children’s lineup, building an even more compelling entertainment bouquet for the whole family to enjoy.”
