Sony Preps Ghostbusters Animated Series

CULVER CITY: Unveiling its 2017 and 2018 slates, Sony Pictures Animation announced plans for a new kids’ series based on the Ghostbusters film franchise.

Ghostbusters: Ecto Force will be set in the year 2050, focusing on a new generation of Ghostbusters. Ivan Reitman, producer and director of the original movies in 1984 and 1989, is leading the animated reboot at his company Ghost Corps. It is eyed for an early 2018 debut. The news of the animated series comes a month ahead of the release of the live-action reboot in theaters this summer.

Ghostbusters: Ecto Force adds to an animated series slate at Sony that also includes Hotel Transylvania: The Television Series and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, both set for 2017 premieres. Also in the works is a direct-to-video title, Surf’s Up 2: Wavemania, in partnership with WWE Studios.
