The Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards has unveiled the parallel activities for its eighth edition, running from May 8 to 10 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna.

This includes the Co-Production and Business Forum, which will host more than 1,300 scheduled meetings aimed at fostering co-production, development and global distribution of animated projects. Among the more than 120 companies registered are CAKE, Dandelooo, DeAPlaneta Entertainment and Studio 100.

The Co-Production and Business Forum is sponsored by the Tenerife Council through Tenerife Tourism and the Tenerife Film Commission. It is also sponsored by ICEX, Animation From Spain and PROEXCA.

The day before the opening session of the Forum, the first edition of the Futures Lab: A New Pact for the Future of Ibero-American Animation will bring together animation professionals, institutions and cross-sector experts to explore future scenarios, identify challenges and opportunities and design innovative cooperation frameworks. It will feature keynote speeches analyzing current trends in the industry, and participants will examine the driving forces of the sector. The meeting will produce summary reports, visual materials and a strategic roadmap for the industry. The Futures Lab is organized by the Quirino Awards in collaboration with the Ortega-Marañón Foundation.

Other activities running parallel to the Quirino Awards are the International Meeting of TV Channels and the roundtable Women in Ibero-American Animation. The International Meeting of TV Channels provides a networking space to promote the exchange of experiences, generate new business opportunities and collaborate in the region. RTVE (Spain), France Télévisions (France), RTP (Portugal), SVT (Sweden), 3Cat (Spain), NTV, Señal 2 Televisión Nacional (Chile), Canal Capital (Colombia), TV Cultura (Brazil) and Warner Bros. Discovery Latin America are among the confirmed participating broadcasters.

The sixth edition of the roundtable Women in the Ibero-American Animation will bring together around 100 women animators and professionals from the sector, including representatives from the projects in the Animation! Ventana Sur mentoring program. The roundtable aims to strengthen networks in the industry and promote the professional development of the participants.

With the aim of promoting new Ibero-American animation talent globally, the finalists’ entries in the short film and school short film categories of the Quirino Awards will be available from May 5 through May 18 on the streaming platforms Retina Latina (free access from all over the world with prior registration) and Filmin (access restricted to subscribers in Spain).

The Quirino Awards will also host events for Tenerife locals, including screenings of nominated feature films and shorts at Santa Cruz de Tenerife theaters from May 9 to 25. Admission will be free for all screenings.

Additionally, on May 6, the Aguere Cultural Center will host its traditional Beerworking event, a networking session connecting students with professionals in illustration, comics, design, animation and video games. Admission will be free, with limited capacity.
