Quirino Awards Unveils 2025 Nominees

The Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards has unveiled the 26 shortlisted titles that will be competing across ten categories, with the winners set to be awarded on May 10.

With 12 and 8 nominations, respectively, Spain and Brazil lead the list of nominated countries, followed by Portugal with five, Chile with three and Argentina and Mexico with two each. Cuba, Panama, Peru and Uruguay are represented with one nomination each.

Titles competing for the best series award are Jasmine & Jambo, which won in the last two editions of the Quirino Awards; Brazil’s Irmão do Jorel season five; Chile’s Firsts season one; and Chile’s Wow Lisa season one.

The three finalists in the best feature film category are from Spain. This includes Buffalo Kids, directed by Pedro Solís and Juan Jesús García “Galo”; They Shot the Piano Player, co-directed by Javier Mariscal and Fernando Trueba; and Black Butterflies, directed by David Baute.

The best short film category nominees are Portugal’s The Girl with the Occupied Eyes, directed by André Carrilho; Portugal’s Percebes, directed by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves; and Uruguay’s Capybaras, directed by Alfredo Soderguit.

At the gala, the winners in the categories for animation school short film, animation video clip, commissioned work, video game animation, visual development, animation design and sound design and original music will also be presented.
