LONDON: The award-winning medical show Operation Ouch! is returning to CBBC for a fifth season, bringing viewers behind-the-scenes of Alder Hey, one of the largest European children’s hospitals.

Doctors Chris and Xand van Tulleken are teaming up again for the new season of Operation Ouch!, which will air on CBBC in the fall. The duo will explore medical mysteries, share facts about the human body and go “Ouch and About” in and around the Alder Hey hospital to answer tricky questions posed by curious children.

The doctors will follow the journeys of kids being treated throughout the hospital, exploring how doctors and nurses care for their patients and how technology is transforming children’s medicine. The ten-part fifth season will also see the doctors visit several other hospitals to discover the work they do and reveal more medical stories from across the U.K.

Xand van Tulleken said: “Even after years of practicing medicine, we still learn loads of incredible facts ourselves when filming Operation Ouch! It’s going to be fascinating to see behind-the-scenes of such a world-class hospital and to hear some of the inspiring stories of the patients there.”

Rick Turnock, the medical director at Alder Hey, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Operation Ouch! back to Alder Hey, this time for Hospital Takeover. Operation Ouch! and CBBC have become part of the Alder Hey family over the last few years and many of our patients and staff are huge fans of the show.

“The series is a fantastic opportunity for Alder Hey to help educate children about health conditions, medicine and treatments, while also hopefully reducing some of the anxiety they may have about coming into [the] hospital.”

Turnock continued: “After recently moving to our new hospital last October, we are looking forward to showing Chris, Xand and all the Operation Ouch! fans around our new home.”

Operation Ouch! is produced by Maverick Productions for CBBC. The series was commissioned by Cheryl Taylor, the controller for CBBC. Kez Margrie serves as executive producer for CBBC, while the series producer for Maverick is Romily Menzies and the executive producer for Maverick is Ian Holt.
