HALIFAX: The reboot of the iconic preschool series Teletubbies has been a ratings hit for CBeebies in the U.K., with the show’s first week winning 66 percent of the target audience and boosting the network’s share by 27 percent.

DHX Media’s new version of the toddler show launched November 9. Based on average figures for the first five episodes, the series won a 66 percent share of homes with children aged 0 to 3. Teletubbies also won a 33 percent share of kids aged 4 to 6, occupying four of the places in the top 10 most watched children’s programs of the week, including the number one slot.

The data comes from industry ratings body BARB.

“It has been a massive undertaking bringing such an iconic and much-loved children’s series back for a new generation, so we are greatly encouraged by these early viewing figures,” said Steven DeNure, the president and COO at DHX Media. “The subtle changes we’ve made to Teletubbies are clearly resonating with viewers and we hope its popularity continues to soar."
