Netflix Leads Children’s & Family Emmy Awards Wins

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has presented Children’s & Family Emmy Awards to nine companies, with Netflix leading the pack with 15 wins.

The most-awarded program of the night was Netflix’s Heartstopper, which took home four awards, including outstanding young teen series and outstanding writing for a young teen program.

The other top honors went to HBO Max’s Sesame Street, which won for outstanding preschool series, and Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club, which won for outstanding children’s or family viewing series. Disney+’s Sneakerella garnered the win for outstanding fiction special, while outstanding non-fiction program went to Apple TV+’s Who Are You, Charlie Brown?

In the animated categories, outstanding preschool series went to Netflix’s Ada Twist, Scientist and outstanding series went to Netflix’s City of Ghosts. Outstanding special class animated program also went to a Netflix show: Hilda and the Mountain King.

Netflix also won for outstanding short form program with We the People.

Kit Connor was awarded the outstanding lead performance in a preschool, children’s or young teen program award for his role in Netflix’s Heartstopper, while Quinn Copeland took home the award for outstanding younger performer in a preschool, children’s or young teen program for Peacock’s Punky Brewster.

Outstanding supporting performance in a preschool, children’s or young teen program went to Nonso Anozie for Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, and outstanding guest performance in a preschool, children’s or young teen program was given to Olivia Colman for her performance in Heartstopper.

For voice performances, Daniel Ross won in the preschool animated program category for his role as Donald Duck in Disney Junior’s Mickey and Minnie Wish Upon a Christmas. Eric Bauza won in the animated program category for voicing Bugs Bunny, Marvin the Martian, Daffy Duck and Tweety in HBO Max’s Looney Tunes Cartoons. Andy Walken took home the outstanding younger voice performer in an animated or preschool animated program for voicing Young Durpleton in Netfix’s Centaurworld.

Dame Helen Mirren won the outstanding host award for Cartoon Network/TBS’s Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses.

The outstanding directing for a single camera program award was presented to Disney+’s The Mysterious Benedict Society.

The seven winners of outstanding individual achievement in animation were Chris Tsirgiotis, background designer for Netflix’s Kid Cosmic; Ron Velasco, character designer for Disney+’s Monsters at Work; Craig McCracken, character designer for Netflix’s Kid Cosmic; Ivan Aguire, background painter for Netflix’s The Cuphead Show!; Alex Konstad, visual development artist for Netflix’s Maya and the Three; Alessandro Taini, production designer for Paramount+’s Star Trek: Prodigy; and Benjamin Arcand, storyboard artist for Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob’s Road to Christmas.

Additionally, the lifetime achievement award was presented to actor, director and educator LeVar Burton.
