LONDON: CBeebies has picked up a sophomore season of the science-themed animated preschool series Messy Goes to Okido.

The first 52×11-minute season was produced by Squint/Opera, and was executive produced by Genevieve Dexter and Jules Coke. Eye Present is managing the brand worldwide, while DHX Media is handling global distribution for TV and home video. The show has been sold around the globe, including to Piwi+ in France and RTVE Clan in Spain, among many other broadcasters.

Messy Goes to Okido enjoyed “a glowing performance on the first run, with above-average viewing figures and an impressive audience share,” said Sarah Legg, producer for CBeebies acquisitions and animation. “Messy’s trips to Okido take the audience on a journey of discovery and knowledge, wrapped inside an action-packed adventure, which has resonated really well with our young audiences. We’re looking forward to more of Messy’s exciting science-based adventures!”

In related news, the Golden Bear talking plush range for Messy Goes to Okido has launched at retail, a range of 12 books have been published by Thames & Hudson and 4 DVD volumes are on the way from Dazzler. In addition, an intuitive music app for the property will be released by the end of the year.

Josh Scherba, the senior VP of distribution at DHX Media, added: “Messy Goes to Okido is one of those standout preschool shows that has all the ingredients for global success, including distinctive characters and an educational pedigree behind its highly amusing and engagingly original story lines. The CBeebies commitment to further episodes and growing licensing presence underscore its caliber.”
