Chinese streamer iQIYI has selected Bejuba! Entertainment to globally distribute its preschool series Momo.

The series follows the adventures of a smart but over-eager young octopus, her unadventurous father and all her undersea friends in their public aquarium home.

Created and produced by Wang Huiyu, head of iQIYI’s internal division Wonderworks, Momo is directed by Joost van den Bosch and Erik Verkerk through Ka-Ching Cartoon (The Lummels, 3D-Machine, George and Paul). Mark Byers (Watch the Skies, Spider vs Fly, Brightheart) is head writer.

iQIYI is ramping up production for season two and working on developing books and merchandise to coincide with the series’ release.

“Huiyu had great foresight when planning this show,” said Tatiana Kuber, president of Bejuba! Entertainment. “Momo was created and produced in China, but Huiyu brought on a directing team from the Netherlands, an American head writer and the show was mastered in English.”

“Tatiana Kober has really impressed us with her commitment to the series,” Huiyu said. “And her record of success speaks for itself.”

Huiyu continued, “Momo is a preschool series with important touchpoints for young audiences, but from the beginning, I designed Momo for co-viewing, with enough sophistication to the characters and the storylines that will appeal to the whole family.”
