TORONTO: marblemedia and Atomic Cartoons have partnered with Corus Entertainment’s TELETOON for the development of the animated comedy series Captain Cornelius’ Cartoon Lagoon.

Captain Cornelius’ Cartoon Lagoon follows the wacky adventures of a ship captain and his crew as they search the lagoon floor for the best and worst cartoons ever made. The show, which features original shorts, clips and sketches, will be co-produced by marblemedia and Atomic Cartoons. It is based on a web series by Pat-Man Studios and will be sold by Distribution360.

Captain Cornelius’ Cartoon Lagoon is a great reflection of what kids love: unique endearing characters, mixed with both adventure and slapstick,” said Matt Hornburg, co-CEO and executive producer at marblemedia. “We fell in love with the format of the web series immediately; it’s a fresh way to curate what audiences enjoy and we’re excited to adapt it for TV.”

Captain Cornelius’ Cartoon Lagoon is right in our animated kids’ comedy wheelhouse,” noted Rob Davies, the director of development and co-founder of Atomic Cartoons. “When our friends at marblemedia approached us with the project we jumped at the opportunity to work with them. We simply couldn’t resist the challenge of co-developing and co-producing something for TELETOON that’s outside of the normal cartoon box.”

“TELETOON couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help develop this quirky concept for kids,” added Athena Georgaklis, the director of content at TELETOON. “Every story will bring a unique and inventive visual style that illustrates the countless possibilities only animated content can provide.”
