Disney Jr. and Disney Channel have slated the premiere of Kindergarten: The Musical for September 3, with episodes to become available on Disney+ the next day.

The show follows 5-year-old Berti and her new friends as they navigate starting school for the first time through Broadway-style song and dance numbers. The voice cast includes Gina Torres (Suits), Aloe Blacc, Ana Isabelle and Leona Lewis. The main theme song is performed by Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon, Hadestown).

The songs are written by a team of Michelle Lewis, Kay Hanley, Dan Petty (Doc McStuffins) and Charlton Pettus (Tears for Fears). Each episode contains at least six musical numbers in a variety of styles.

The art style of the show switches from CG to 2D animation to indicate a shift into the characters’ imaginations, giving them a platform to showcase their emotions.

The main themes of Kindergarten: The Musical are self-expression, developing friendships, having confidence in social situations, cultivating teamwork, the importance of imaginative play and the power of music.

The series was created by Lewis and Pettus, who also serve as executive producers alongside Hanley and Petty. Tom Warburton (Muppet Babies) is also an executive producer, and Laurie Israel (Sofia the First) is co-executive producer.
