Action film star Jackie Chan has revealed at a press conference in Beijing his new 3D-animated series, All New Jackie Chan Adventures, which is China’s first international high-budget animation production.

Following on the success of the American animated show Jackie Chan Adventures, the new 104-episode cartoon series will feature the adventures of a cartoon version of Chan. All New Jackie Chan Adventures will follow a team that guards against monsters that threaten the dreamlands to ensure that every child has sweet dreams at night. The first season has been scheduled on at least three children’s satellite TV channels and 200 terrestrial channels in China, including Hunan TV Children’s Channel, BTV’s Kaku Children’s Channel and Toonmax TV.

The $6 million show will debut later this year and will also star Kyana Poppy Downs as a trusted partner and classmate. The series promotes positive values for young audiences, with story lines that embody Chinese etiquette and traditional virtues. It was created following detailed research into the cultural nuances of how to engage young Chinese viewers. An international rollout is also planned, as is a multiplatform strategy to expand the brand into video games, merchandise, stage plays, books and theme parks.

“With young children increasingly searching for new role models to look up to, it is imperative that celebrities in China use their influence to help shape the values of today’s young Chinese children and indeed people in general,” said Chan. “This new cartoon series is not limited to the TV screen. In many ways, it will be children’s companion as they grow up.”
