PITTSBURGH: The Fred Rogers Company, the kids’ media group behind hit series such as Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, has appointed Emmy Award-winning producer and writer Ellen Doherty as the executive in charge of production.

In her new role, Doherty will oversee development of the company’s educational children’s media properties such as Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Peg + Cat and Odd Squad, working directly with Paul Siefken, the VP of broadcast and digital media at The Fred Rogers Company. Doherty will also work with co-production partners, animation studios and public broadcasters to deliver broadcast and digital media properties. Her responsibilities will also include supervising digital content producers in creating online and mobile games and apps based on the company’s series. In addition, Doherty will provide content and strategic support for The Fred Rogers Company’s licensing and merchandising efforts. She will also help guide its outreach and training efforts to promote children’s social, emotional, behavioral and academic health, while supporting parents, caregivers, teachers and other professionals in their dealings with youngsters.

Prior to joining The Fred Rogers Company, Doherty worked at WNET for 13 years, most recently serving as executive producer for the math-themed animated series Cyberchase. Her other credits include series such as Reading Rainbow and The Puzzle Place for PBS Kids, and Countdown to Blast-Off and Blast-Off for Discovery International, among other projects.

“We are delighted to welcome Ellen Doherty to our ‘neighborhood,’” said Siefken. “Ellen brings to the table her extensive experience and innovative approach to creating and producing high-quality content that engages kids while helping them learn and grow. We are excited about working together to support the needs of kids and families, both through our current series and those to come.”
