David Walliams Book Being Adapted for the Small Screen

LONDON: Sky 1 is slated to air a television adaptation of the David Walliams-penned children’s book Ratburger this holiday season.

Ratburger follows a girl who befriends a dancing rat that her evil stepmother wants to make burgers out of. Walliams will star in the comedy alongside Sheridan Smith, Mark Benton, Nigel Planer and Ben Bailey Smith. The series is written by Kevin Cecil and Walliams, directed by Matt Lipsey, executive produced by Jo Sargent and produced by Joanna Hanley for King Bert Productions.

Ratburger is due to debut on Sky 1, on demand and on Sky Go, as well as through the online streaming service NOW TV with a NOW TV Entertainment Month Pass.

Walliams remarked: “I am thrilled my book is coming to Sky and especially thrilled that I am playing the villain Burt. Plus I will be working with one of my favorite comedy actors, Nigel Planer, and someone who I adore working with, the super talented Sheridan Smith.”

Jon Mountague, Sky’s head of comedy who commissioned the show, noted: “Hilarious, gruesome and warm-hearted in equal measure, David’s book Ratburger is a terrific tale, with a fantastic cast. We jumped at the chance to bring the adventure, villainy and vermin to screens.”

Sargent added: “We are delighted to be making Ratburger for Sky and are very much looking forward to bringing one of David’s most popular and gruesome books to life.”
