Video Interview: Behind the Scenes of Crongton

The new series Crongton takes the best-selling, award-winning The Crongton Chronicles novels by Alex Wheatle and gives them a fresh twist for the screen. Produced by New Pictures as a BBC iPlayer series, Crongton follows the lives and journeys of a thriving, multicultural community in a fictional, vibrant housing estate. While there are challenging real-life topics of social politics, climate change, identity, peer pressure and crime touched upon, the series approaches these issues and more in a way that champions the frenetic energy and warm glow of youth. The preteen’s imaginatively charged view of reality is highlighted through the use of animation, which is interwoven into the live-action scenes.

Executive producer Imogen O’Sullivan and writer Archie Maddocks take TV Kids Weekly behind the scenes of Crongton, touching on the approach to casting, nurturing homegrown talent and how kids in all corners of the world will find something to relate to in the coming-of-age stories.

All3Media International represents TV and licensing rights to the series, outside of publishing.
