ABC Australia Acquires New Pictures’ Crongton

ABC Australia has picked up New Pictures’ Crongton from All3Media International for its free-to-air channel ABC Family and on-demand service ABC iview.

Crongton is a vivid, joyful series celebrating what it means to be a young person today through exploring friendship and family identity,” said Alexander Euler, commercial manager for Australia, New Zealand and pan-Asia at All3Media International. “It’s captured the imaginations of audiences young and old across the U.K. We’re absolutely thrilled to have ABC on board to share this vibrant journey with families all over Australia.”

The ten-part series chronicles the lives and journeys of a group of young people living in a multicultural community in a fictional urban housing estate. It follows as they navigate the complexities of social politics, peer pressure and identity.

Crongton aired on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer earlier this year. It is written by Archie Maddocks and based on the best-selling British novels by Alex Wheatle.

“We’re excited to bring the effervescent, high stakes of Crongton to our audiences at ABC and iview,” said Maria-Nicole Miriklis, acquisitions manager for children and family content at ABC.
