LONDON: The Rastamouse Company has signed a new five-year deal with the BBC.

The deal sees the relicensing of the first 52 episodes of the animated stop-motion children’s series Rastamouse, which premiered on CBeebies in January 2011. Rastamouse has been featured on the channel regularly ever since. The show follows Rastamouse and his reggae band Da Easy Crew, a group of mice that splits its time between making music and solving mysteries for Da President of Mouseland. Rastamouse was created by Michael De Souza and Genevieve Webster.

In addition to the relicense deal with the BBC, the company has also inked a deal with Demon Records that sees the re-launch of the first Rastamouse album in spring 2016. As part of the deal, a new album of original songs incorporating the music of Andrew Kingslow will be released next summer.

Adrian Sear, commercial director at Demon Records, said, “Demon are very excited at partnering with Rastamouse, this highly successful children's brand, in releasing audio CDs and digital releases.”

Sear added, “Rastamouse, previously with EMI, has had great success with their audio brand and we will be building on that success with their catalogue and a new album release in the New Year.”
