LONDON: CBeebies has unveiled details for Apple Tree House, an upcoming 30-part drama series that takes place at an inner-city estate.

Apple Tree House follows the adventures of a boy named Mali, who just moved to an inner-city estate in London. William Vanderpuye, Maria Timotheou and Akindele Akinsiku created the show, which is being developed for television by Rastamouse producers Eugenio Perez and Gregory Boardman. The cast includes Aamir Tai as Mali, Miranda Sarfo Peprah as Mali’s friend Sam, and Vanderpuye as Kobi, Sam’s father. The series will begin production early next month for broadcast in 2017.

Kay Benbow, controller for CBeebies, commented: “Apple Tree House embodies all that CBeebies stands for—a sense of fun, curiosity and adventure, as well as sharing valuable life lessons in responsibility, kindness and being a good friend.”

Boardman added: “Whether it is in Mali’s family flat, in Kobi’s caretaker shed or out and about in the Apple Tree neighborhood, each new day brings an opportunity to have fun and discover something new as the children engage with friends and fellow residents. There is always something to be learned—Mali and Sam’s wonderful everyday world provides the perfect backdrop.”
