CBeebies Commissions More Supertato

BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions and BBC Children’s & Education are working on a brand-new 52-episode season of Supertato for CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.

The show, based on the best-selling books by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet, follows the adventures of the eponymous potato superhero and his fruit and veggie sidekicks. The new episodes will introduce more fruit and veggie characters, including the naughty pirate Captain Pak Choi and Evil Pea’s parents.

Supertato first launched in the U.K. on CBeebies in 2022 and saw the biggest audience numbers at launch for the channel in 2022. It also airs on RTÉ in Ireland and ABC in Australia.

The show’s consumer products portfolio continues to expand, with Golden Bear introducing a range of Supertato character plush toys in July. Simon & Schuster Children’s Books launched a search-and-find book called Where’s Supertato? last year, and Supertato The Album was released by Demon Music last year.

BBC Studios Kids & Family will be bringing Supertato to MIPJUNIOR this year, along with The Primrose Railway Children and My Friend Maisy.

“We’re delighted to have a new series of Supertato in our portfolio,” said Cecilia Persson, managing director of BBC Studios Kids & Family. “It’s bright, bold and colorful, and kids love finding the fun and silliness in everyday things—including their fruit and veggies! The new series forms part of our stand-out, multi-genre slate that will capture the imagination of audiences of all ages everywhere.”
