CAKE has acquired the international distribution rights to La Cabane and Thuristar’s animated special A Lamb’s Stew.

The film, helmed by Joeri Christiaen (Mush-Mush and the Mushables, My Knight and Me), tells the story of a young lamb determined to prove that sheep are just as brave as other animals. She devises a plan to lure a wolf into a trap but realizes he is not the monster she was led to believe.

The English voice cast includes Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes), T’Nia Miller (Sex Education, Years and Years) and Iris Onyejiuwa in the lead roles.

A Lamb’s Stew is written by Christiaen, who worked with Claire Paoletti (Shoom’s Odyssey) as story consultant during the project’s initial development phase, and with Julia Smuts Louw (Star Wars: Visions—Aau’s Song, The Smeds and the Smoos) as story editor for the final script.

Four major European broadcasters have already confirmed their commitment to the special: CANAL+ (France), VRT-Ketnet (Belgium), ZDF (Germany) and RTS (Switzerland). A Lamb’s Stew has also received support from the MEDIA Creative Europe Programme, the CNC, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) and the Procirep-Angoa.

This marks the third collaboration between CAKE, La Cabane and Thuristar. They previously worked together on Mush-Mush and the Mushables and Luce in the Lovely Land.

A Lamb’s Stew is an ambitious project, and we’re confident that CAKE’s expertise will help bring this heartfelt story and distinctive visual style to audiences around the globe,” said Perrine Gauthier, co-founder of La Cabane, partner of Thuristar and producer of the special.

“We love working with La Cabane and Thuristar, and A Lamb’s Stew is another great example of their originality and heart,” commented Edward Galton, CEO at CAKE. “Joeri Christiaen has created something really special; it’s visually striking, emotionally layered and has a lot to say without ever losing its charm. We’re excited to be bringing it to audiences around the world.”
