British Academy Children’s Award Nominations Unveiled

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed the nominees for this year’s British Academy Children’s Awards, which will be presented in a ceremony hosted by Doc Brown in London on November 26.

Up for best animation are The Amazing World of Gumball (Turner/Cartoon Network), Revolting Rhymes (Magic Light Pictures/BBC One), Shaun the Sheep (Aardman Animations/CBBC) and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, which is produced by Lupus Films, Bear Hunt Films, Walker Productions and Herrick Entertainment for Channel 4. The channel of the year contenders are Cartoon Network, CBBC, CBeebies and online educational platform TrueTube, which racked up a total of seven nominations.

The best comedy nominees are Class Dismissed (CBBC Productions/CBBC); Hank Zipzer, produced by Kindle Entertainment with DHX Media, Walker Productions and Screen Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Content Fund for CBBC; Horrible Histories (Lion Television/CBBC); and So Awkward (Channel X North/CBBC). The drama nominations go to Hank Zipzer’s Christmas Catastrophe, Hetty Feather (CBBC Productions/CBBC), Jamie Johnson (Short Form Film Company/CBBC) and Like Me (CTVC/TrueTube).

The entertainment category includes Bear Grylls Survival School (Potato for ITV Studios/CiTV), The Dog Ate My Homework (BBC Children’s Scotland/CBBC), Sam and Mark’s Big Friday Wind Up (CBBC Productions/CBBC) and Swashbuckle (CBeebies Productions/CBeebies). Factual consists of Absolute Genius Monster Builds (CBBC Productions/CBBC), Inside My Head: A Newsround Special (CBBC Productions/CBBC), My Life: Born to Vlog (Blakeway North/CBBC) and To Life (CTVC/TrueTube).

Up for best performer are Alhaji Fofana as Ryan in Screwball! (TrueTube), Millie Innes as Millie in Millie Inbetween (CBBC), Phil Fletcher as Hacker T Dog in CBBC Presentation (CBBC) and Savannah Baker as Natalie in Screwball! (TrueTube). The presenter contenders are Doctors Chris and Xand van Tulleken in Operation Ouch! Hospital Takeover (CBBC), Gemma Hunt in Swashbuckle (CBeebies), Maddie Moate in Do You Know? (CBeebies) and Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes in Sam and Mark’s Big Friday Wind Up (CBBC).

The best preschool animation nominees are Digby Dragon (Blue Zoo/Nick Jr.), Hey Duggee (Studio AKA/CBeebies), Peppa Pig (Astley Baker Davies/eOne/Channel 5) and Sarah & Duck (Karrot Entertainment/CBeebies). The best preschool live-action nominees are Apple Tree House (Five Apples/CBeebies), CBeebies Stargazing: Mission Explore (CBeebies Production/CBeebies), Do You Know? (7Wonder/CBeebies) and Our Family (Sixth Sense Media/CBeebies).

The short-form category recognizes CN Buddy Network (Turner/Cartoon Network), The Happos Family (Turner/Boomerang), Morph (Aardman Animations/Sky Kids) and Share a Story 2016 (CiTV/CiTV). The nominations for best writer are Adam Tyle for Screwball! (TrueTube); Joe Williams for Hank Zipzer’s Christmas Catastrophe (CBBC); Paul Rose, Luc Skyz and Mikis Michaelides for 4 O’Clock Club (CBBC); and the writing team for The Amazing World of Gumball (Cartoon Network).
