Nickelodeon is reimagining its Are You Afraid of the Dark? anthology as a brand-new limited series that will premiere later this year.

Featuring three hour-long episodes, the reboot will introduce a new Midnight Society, a group of kids who gather together to tell terrifying tales. This time, they dive into a frightening legend about the Carnival of Doom, only to have the events of the story come to life. Production on the new Are You Afraid of the Dark? is scheduled to begin this month in Vancouver, Canada. The series is slated for an October premiere.

Produced by ACE Entertainment, Are You Afraid of the Dark? is written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers movie, Project Almanac). Starring as the new Midnight Society members are Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.), Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe), Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch), Jeremy Taylor (It, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween) and Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick, black-ish). Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) is playing the Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat.

Nickelodeon’s original Are You Afraid of the Dark? series ran from 1992 to 1996 and again from 1999 to 2000.
