Cartoon Forum Concludes After Naming Tributes Winners

The 36th edition of Cartoon Forum has concluded in Toulouse after welcoming 870 participants from 37 countries and awarding companies from Belgium, Denmark and France with Cartoon Forum Tributes prizes.

Denmark’s DR was recognized as broadcaster of the year, while France’s Mediatoon Distribution won the investor/distributor of the year award. Belgium’s Creative Conspiracy was voted as producer of the year.

Among the 870 participants who attended this year’s Cartoon Forum, 239 were buyers, including 13.4 percent of whom were newcomers.

The top five titles that saw the most number of buyers present in their pitching rooms were GO-N Productions’ Elle(s); Millimages’ Pepper; Marla Studios and Kiss a Frog’s Temtem and La Chouette Compagnie’s Frostheart, the Seven Hearts of Darkness tied for third; Sixteen South’s This Moose Belongs to Me; and Cartoon Saloon’s Natu Natu.

The event saw a significant portion of participants from CEE, with Poland presenting four projects, Serbia and Czechia presenting two and Armenia, Bosnia, Latvia and Bulgaria presenting one.

Titles for young adults and adults audiences showed a slight decrease compared to last year, while projects targeting children and families went up, representing 80 percent of the titles.

The importance of cross-borders partnerships was emphasized at Cartoon Forum, with Animated UK Meets Europe seeing three U.K. projects looking for financing pitched to potential European partners; a Cartoon Talk featured BBC’s Sarah Muller, Yle’s Vicky Schroderus and France Télévisions’ Pierre Siracusa on the steps to building successful collaborations; and the EBU Co-Development initiative.
