Children’s & Family Emmy Awards Nominees Revealed

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) has unveiled the nominations for the first annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, which will be presented on December 10 and 11.

Children’s and family content represents the fastest growing genre for NATAS, with a 23 percent increase in the last two years. Among the nominees for the inaugural ceremony, Disney+’s The Mysterious Benedict Society and Sneakerella lead the pack with 11 nods each.

“Putting a spotlight on children’s and family programming after years of unparalleled growth in content quality and quantity in this space is an exciting moment for the television industry,” said Adam Sharp, president and CEO of NATAS. “These programs entertain, inform and educate family members of all ages, and NATAS is proud to mark this milestone event and give these creators the stage they deserve.”

For outstanding preschool series, the contenders are Helpsters (Apple TV+), The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo: Game Edition (HBO Max), Sesame Street (HBO Max), Tab Time (YouTube Originals) and Waffles + Mochi (Netflix).

Outstanding children’s or family viewing series nominees are The Astronauts (Nickelodeon), The Baby-Sitters Club (Netflix), Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock (Apple TV+), Raising Dion (Netflix) and Secrets of Sulphur Springs (Disney Channel).

Nominated programs for outstanding young teen series are Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. (Disney+), First Day (Hulu), Heartstopper (Netflix), High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Disney Channel) and The Mysterious Benedict Society (Disney+).

The outstanding fiction special category sees as nominees Better Nate Than Ever (Disney+), Muppets Haunted Mansion (Disney+), See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special (HBO Max), Sneakerella (Disney+), Spin (Disney Channel) and Waffles + Mochi’s Holiday Feast (Netflix).

Up for the outstanding non-fiction program award are Hi I’m Sevy (Magnolia Network), Kids Baking Championship (Food Network), Nick News (Nickelodeon), Sesame Street in Communities: Talking About Race (YouTube.com) and Who Are You, Charlie Brown? (Apple TV+).

For outstanding preschool animated series, contenders are Ada Twist, Scientist (Netflix), Molly of Denali (PBS), Octonauts: Above & Beyond (Netflix), Santiago of the Seas (Nickelodeon) and Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum (PBS).

Outstanding animated series nominees are City of Ghosts (Netflix), The Cuphead Show! (Netflix), The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder (Disney+), Star Trek: Prodigy (Paramount+) and A Tale Dark & Grimm (Netflix).

The nominees for outstanding special class animated program are El Deafo (Apple TV+), Hilda and the Mountain King (Netflix), Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (Amazon Prime Video), Maya and the Three (Netflix) and Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans (Netflix).

Up for the outstanding short form program award are Ciao Alberto (Disney+), Little Bird (Vimeo), Rhymes through Times (Noggin), Sesame Street in Communities—Explaining Race | #ComingTogether (YouTube.com) and We the People (Netflix).

Cat Burglar (Netflix), In Space with Markiplier (YouTube Originals), Madrid Noir (Oculus TV), Namoo (Baobab Studios) and Paper Birds (Oculus TV) are nominated for outstanding interactive media.

The outstanding promotional announcement award sees as nominees CHOOSE KINDNESS Campaign (ABC), Dragons: The Nine Realms (Hulu and Peacock), Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (Netflix), Maya and the Three (Netflix), My Squishy Little Dumplings (Nickelodeon) and PBS KIDS: “You Taught Me” Brand Campaign (PBS).

Nominees for outstanding writing for a live action preschool or children’s program are The Baby-Sitters Club (Netflix), See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special (HBO Max), Sesame Street (HBO Max), Waffles + Mochi (Netflix) and Who Are You, Charlie Brown? (Apple TV+).

Outstanding writing for a young teen program contenders are Better Nate Than Ever (Disney+), Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. (Disney+), Heartstopper (Netflix), The Mysterious Benedict Society (Disney+) and Sweet Tooth (Netflix).

Ada Twist, Scientist (Netflix), Alma’s Way (PBS), Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (PBS), Molly of Denali (PBS) and Muppet Babies (Disney Junior) are nominated for outstanding writing for a preschool animated program.

For the outstanding writing for an animated program award, nominees are Amphibia (Disney Channel), City of Ghosts (Netflix), Dug Days (Disney+), Karma’s World (Netflix) and Maya and the Three (Netflix).

For outstanding directing, nominees for a single-camera program are The Baby-Sitters Club (Netflix), The Mysterious Benedict Society (Disney+), Sneakerella (Disney+), Spin (Disney Channel), Sweet Tooth (Netflix) and Who Are You, Charlie Brown? (Apple TV+). Nominees for a multiple camera program are Raven’s Home (Disney+), The Quest (Disney+), Sesame Street (HBO Max), Top Chef Family Style (Peacock) and Zero Chill (Netflix).

Outstanding directing nominees for a preschool animated program are Ada Twist, Scientist (Netflix), Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (PBS), Go! Go! Cory Carson (Netflix), Muppet Babies (Disney Junior), Stillwater (Apple TV+) and Storybots: Learn to Read (Netflix). For an animated program, nominees are Arlo the Alligator Boy (Netflix), Carmen Sandiego (Netflix), Ciao Alberto (Disney+), City of Ghosts (Netflix), Dug Days (Disney+) and Hilda and the Mountain King (Netflix).

Amphibia (Disney Channel), Centaurworld (Netflix), Hilda and the Mountain King (Netflix), The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder (Disney+) and Summer Camp Island (HBO/HBO Max) are up for outstanding voice directing for an animated series.

Nominees for outstanding lead performance in a preschool, children’s or young teen program are Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Netflix), Loretta Devine (Family Reunion, Netflix), Mark Feuerstein (The Baby-Sitters Club, Netflix), Joe Locke (Heartstopper, Netflix), Alicia Silverstone (The Baby-Sitters Club, Netflix) and Rueby Wood (Better Nate Than Ever, Disney+).

Contenders for the outstanding supporting performance in a preschool, children’s or young teen program award are Adeel Akhtar (Sweet Tooth, Netflix), Nonso Anozie (Sweet Tooth, Netflix), Yasmin Finney (Heartstopper, Netflix), William Gao (Heartstopper, Netflix) and Lisa Kudrow (Better Nate Than Ever, Disney+).

For the outstanding younger performer in a preschool, children’s or young teen program award, nominees are Malia Baker (The Baby-Sitters Club, Netflix), Quinn Copeland (Punky Brewster, Peacock), Sammi Haney (Raising Dion, Netflix), Momona Tamada (The Baby-Sitters Club, Netflix) and Ja’Siah Young (Raising Dion, Netflix).

Olivia Colman (Heartstopper, Netflix), Chris Diamontopoulos (Ghostwriter, Apple TV+), Sharon Lawrence (Punky Brewster, Peacock), Randall Park (Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., Disney+) and Gina Rodriguez (Diary of a Future President, Disney+) are nominated for outstanding guest performance in a preschool, children’s or young teen program.

Outstanding voice performance in a preschool animated program nominees are David Errigo Jr. (Ridley Jones, Netflix), Eden Espinosa (Alice’s Wonderland Bakery, Disney Junior), Michael Luwoye (Baby Shark’s Big Show!, Nickelodeon), Daniel Ross (Mickey and Minnie Wish Upon a Christmas, Disney Junior) and Sherri Shepherd (Blaze and the Monster Machines, Nickelodeon).

For outstanding voice performance in an animated program, nominees are Eric Bauza (Looney Tunes Cartoons, HBO/HBO Max), Grey Delisle (The Loud House, Nickelodeon), Mark Hamill (Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Netflix), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants, Nickelodeon) and Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo And Guess Who?, Cartoon Network).

In the outstanding younger voice performer in an animated or preschool animated program category, contenders are Asher Bishop (The Loud House, Nickelodeon), Tucker Chandler (Madagascar: A Little Wild, Hulu and Peacock), Kyrie McAlpin (Doug Unplugs, Apple TV+), Amir O’Neil (Madagascar: A Little Wild, Hulu and Peacock) and Andy Walken (Centaurworld, Netflix).

Up for the outstanding host award are Tabitha Brown (Tab Time, YouTube Originals); Recker Eans, Dylan Gilmer, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Olivia Perez (The Kids Tonight Show, Peacock); Dame Helen Mirren (Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses, Cartoon Network/TBS); Jack McBrayer (Hello, Jack! The Kindness Show, Apple TV+); and Coyote Peterson (Coyote Peterson’s Wild Field Trip, YouTube Originals).
