TORONTO: Guru Studio (Paw Patrol, Justin Time) and Kids’ CBC have begun development on the comedy-adventure series Big Blue.

The original series for kids aged 4 to 8 follows underwater adventurers and siblings Lettie and Lemo, and their quirky submarine crew, as they explore and protect an ocean-covered planet from ship-stealing crabs, know-it-all jellyfish and a health-inspector shark. On their adventures, Lettie and Lemo uncover secrets and the origin of their newest recruit, the mysterious Bacon Berry.

Mary Bredin, the executive VP of content and strategy at Guru, said, “Imagine the Millennium Falcon helmed by a colorful cast of marine misfits! Big Blue will drop young viewers into a bold new world of comic adventure and spark their curiosity about the Earth’s oceans.”

Guru’s designer, Gyimah Gariba, who created the show, commented, “Creating a diverse cast of aspirational heroes was really important to me. Connecting to a hero on-screen can bring a child closer to being a hero in their own life.”

“From the moment we saw Gyimah’s designs we knew we wanted to be part of Big Blue,” added Marie McCann, interim senior director of children’s content at CBC. “We at Kids’ CBC are excited to be working with Gyimah and Guru Studio to develop this stunning creator-driven concept.”
