The Ukrainian comedy Servant of the People, which launched the political career of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, is being remade in Poland for Polsat.

Currently in production under the local title Sługa Narodu, the series stars Polish TV actor Marcin Hycnar as an ordinary man who is unwittingly voted president. The adaptation is being produced by Polot Media and directed by Maciej Bieliński.

The original series was produced by Studio Kvartal 95. The show was created by Zelensky, and “Servant of the People” was later adopted as the name of his own political party.

Eccho Rights handles licensing of both the script and ready-made for Servant of the People.

“This is a hugely powerful script—a comedy, but one that spoke so deeply to the Ukrainian people that it changed the course of political history in that country, and subsequently the world,” said Berkin Nalbantlı, sales and acquisitions executive for CEE and Africa at Eccho Rights. “Naturally, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Polish version!”
