Japan’s Nippon TV has revealed that it plans to debut three new formats at MIPCOM this year, including the new game show Time Potion.

In the unscripted format, time is the ultimate ruler, and contestants must fight across three stages while their “lives” tick away. Bottles containing a “time potion” are scattered around the game universe and, upon achieving a challenge, the contestants have the chance to drink it and extend their lives in the game.

Nippon TV’s unscripted formats slate also includes Money or Junk, which was unveiled at MIPCOM Online last year. This year, it will be featured at MIPCOM’s Treasure Box Japan on October 17.

The other new formats to be presented at MIPCOM are the scripted series Love with a Case and Home Tutor. From the creators of Mother and Woman—My Life for My Children, Love with a Case follows four members of the police who have no rights to investigate but somehow solve complex cases with their unique sense of perception. Home Tutor, meanwhile, from the creators of I’m Mita, Your Housekeeper., sees a peculiar home tutor guide her students in unique ways.

“With the continued global success of our drama formats Mother and Woman—My Life for My Children, we are delighted to be offering our newest and long-awaited scripted drama series Love with a Case from the same creators and showrunners,” said Mikiko Nishiyama, executive VP of international business development at Nippon TV. “The script is Sakamoto at his best, depicting each relatable character in depth, unveiling mysteries foreshadowed earlier in the story and making the series unmissable, episode after episode. Home Tutor is a thrilling and intense series for viewers living in new life standards post-COVID, where a peculiar home tutor teaches how to deal with one of the most important elements of life: money.”

“We are also very excited to introduce Time Potion for the first time to the international market,” Nishiyama added. “It is the ultimate time-battle game show with a surprising twist where the contestant can drink a special potion in order to gain more game survival time.”

Nishiyama continued, “Having had success this spring as the only Japanese TV format creators that exhibited with a booth at MIPTV 2022, I am also happy to announce that we are relocating to our new prime location in the Palais (P-1.D50). We welcome all friends and clients to come and experience our new home in Cannes and jointly create an atmosphere that will lead to the further success of our industry.”
