MTV International Orders Ex on the Beach Spin-Off

MTV International has commissioned Whizz Kid Entertainment to produce Celebrity Ex on the Beach, a spin-off of its hit reality series Ex on the Beach.

The 15×60-minute order will begin filming this September. The series will air next year across MTV’s network of international channels and digital platforms, spanning 180 countries.

Celebrity Ex on the Beach will involve a variety of single celebrities enjoying a luxury holiday as they attempt to find love in paradise. One by one, their exes will begin to appear, with many twists and turns along the way.

Since its launch in 2014, Ex on the Beach has become MTV International’s most widely travelled and locally adapted show, with 14 local versions created across the globe for MTV channels (U.K., U.S., Netherlands, Poland, Brazil, Italy, Mexico) and third parties (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, France, Russia, Hungary). In 2018, the series was the second-highest performing show on MTV UK.

Celebrity Ex on the Beach is the latest international commission for MTV and follows a string of other recent commissions, including a spin-off reality series of the hit Geordie Shore, titled Geordie OGs (Lime Pictures), a brand-new Love Squad (Workerbee) and a second season of True Love or True Lies? (Lime Pictures). All three series will air later this year.

Craig Orr, VP of commissioning and development for MTV International, commented: “With over 580 episodes of Ex on the Beach commissioned worldwide to date, it’s nothing short of a juggernaut—and the new celebrity version adds an exciting twist to this hugely popular format. We have a great lineup of famous faces all desperately looking for love and it promises to be a captivating ride for MTV’s viewers.”

Malcolm Gerrie, chief executive of Whizz Kid Entertainment, added: “After nine successful seasons it’s the perfect time to launch a celebrity version of Ex on the Beach. We have some sensational celebrities lined up in a super glamorous location and we are delighted to be working with MTV International again.”
