Media Ranch’s classic celebrity hidden-camera prank format Surprise Sur Prise is slated to return to television, with Deeply Superficial set to produce.

The format originally aired in France on France 2 from 1993 to 1995. This is the first production from Thierry Lachkar’s new company Deeply Superficial, and the company won a bidding war for the format. Lachkar is the former Shine France CEO who oversaw local adaptations of The Voice and MasterChef.

Surprise Sur Prise has been delighting family audiences around the world since it first aired 30 years ago, launching in Canada. The show aired for several years on three major networks in Canada, TVA, TQS and Société Radio-Canada, airing in ten countries total: Australia (Nine Network), Belgium (RTBF), Denmark (TV3), France (Canal+, France 2 and TF1), Germany (RTL), Greece (Ant1), Norway (TV3), Poland (TVN) and Sweden (TV3).

Lachkar stated: “Surprise Sur Prise has been a joy to produce and we have a superbly entertaining program to share with French audiences. We are excited to be back on France 2 as an excellent prime time event on Saturday night, and we are confident that audiences will embrace this latest version. Get ready to laugh hysterically!”

Media Ranch Founder and President Sophie Ferron added: “Media Ranch is thrilled that our hit format from Montreal, Surprise Sur Prise is back on air—on France 2, and with the talented Thierry Lachkar of Deeply Superficial producing the show, it is sure to be a hit! We are excited to be distributing this fantastically funny program around the world and look forward to announcing more international productions in the coming months.”
