Big Love, a format from Media Ranch’s The DR Collection, is finishing production in Belgium and has been optioned in the Netherlands by Monday Media.

From De Mensen, the Belgian version of Big Love is locally titled Da’s Dikke Liefde. It will begin airing on Play4 on May 23. Earlier this year, a French-Canadian adaptation of the format titled Le Poids de l’amour launched on VRAI in Canada.

Big Love was originally created by STV Productions, and season four of the series is currently in production in Denmark, airing this summer on DR1.

A factual reality series, Big Love is centered on the idea that being in a relationship makes you gain weight. It sees three couples, who have all put on a lot of weight since they first fell for each other, agree to be part of an experiment to shed their extra pounds and rekindle the spark.

Sophie Ferron, president and founder of Media Ranch, said: “Media Ranch is thrilled that the unique relationship docu-reality format Big Love is going to air in Belgium, as it has currently been airing on DR1 (Danish Broadcasting) for years and is now in production for its fourth series. The inspiring show is sustaining very well in French Canada since early this year and is also optioned in the Netherlands. It proves that not only the big and splashy programs garner interest but the authentic and raw as well. We look forward to seeing more adaptations around the world soon, following our credo—Great Content is Worth Sharing.”

Birgitte Koefoed, chief creative officer at STV Productions, said: “As a format creator, it is always thrilling to see your idea find new audiences worldwide. Big Love is a story about struggling couples losing excess weight and gaining lost intimacy, and that story is not specific to one country but applies to audiences everywhere. It is a consistent hit for both linear and on-demand viewing in Denmark and has appealed to a hard-to-get male audience. Hopefully, it will be equally successful in Belgium and many more territories.”
