LONDON/OSLO: U.S. network ABC has secured format rights for the Swedish comedy-drama series Small Town Love from Nordic World.

This marks Nordic World’s first deal with the U.S. network and the first international format deal for the show. Created by Ulf Malmros, the original story is set in the small town of Molkom in Värmland and follows a mother and daughter who run a nail salon together and both become pregnant at the same time. Their deadbeat boyfriends decide they should all move in together. The ABC pilot is currently in development with ABC Studios and Kapital Entertainment. Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment is set to executive produce.

Espen Huseby, the CEO of Nordic World, said: “Small Town Love has the much quoted ‘universal appeal’ we’re all looking for in drama yet with the killer combination of being hugely funny, making it a very attractive proposition for international development. We know the show is in extremely capable hands with Aaron Kaplan and we of course are honored to be in collaboration with the prestigious ABC Studios.”
